Biomimetics, coming from the Greek word bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate, literally means life imitation. More specifically, biomimetics is applying designs in nature to human made inventions used in everyday life. Some examples of human made inventions based on designs in nature found on this website include medical needles, airplane wings, wind turbines, termite ventilation systems, tape, and velcro hooks.
